Trekking to the Uruguayan Plane Crash Site – Valley of Tears

The Trekking to the Uruguayan Plane Crash Site is more than just a hike; it’s an adventure packed with emotion and thrill. In 1972, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 crashed in the Andes Mountains. Against all odds, 16 survivors were rescued after 72 days, showcasing incredible human resilience. Today, a memorial at the crash site honors those who didn’t make it back.

This legendary story, known as “The Miracle of the Andes,” inspired the recent film “Society of the Snow” by Spanish director J.A. Bayona and the iconic “Alive!” (1993) by F. Marshall.

The Thrill of Trekking to the Plane of the Uruguayans

Our exciting journey begins in Mendoza, where we’ll head south to El Sosneado. We’ll travel along a scenic mountain road until we reach the muleteers’ post, where our trekking adventure to the Plane of the Uruguayans begins. Leaving civilization behind, we’ll dive into the wild, assisted by muleteers during river crossings. At the camp, enjoy a mouth-watering barbecue under a blanket of stars.

Immerse yourself in the Andes Mountains, reliving an incredible story in a stunning setting. We’ll trek through towering peaks, rushing rivers, and beautiful lagoons that stand out against the rugged landscape. Plus, you’ll witness breathtaking sunsets and star-filled skies, creating unforgettable memories.

This trek is perfect for adventurers seeking an enriching experience and jaw-dropping landscapes. No prior mountaineering experience is needed to tackle the Valley of Tears trek, but good physical fitness and health are necessary.
