Mount Penitentes Trekking 360 Traverse

Discover one of the best trekking tours in Mendoza

This adventure through the stunning Andes takes you around Mount Penitentes, close to the border between Chile and Argentina and directly facing Mount Aconcagua, the tallest peak in the Americas. Combining stunning landscapes, unforgettable adventure and local Andean tradition, it is definetely one of the best hikes in Mendoza.

The Route: A Journey Through Andean Majesty

Our journey begins in Penitentes Mountain Village for acclimatization and on the following days, the trek takes us to the Serrata Pass at 13,123 feet (4,000 m), where you’ll be treated to sweeping vistas of Mount Aconcagua and the towering Tupungato Volcano, standing at 21,555 feet (6,570 m). Then, the trail continues along the remote and stunning Tupungato Valley, surrounded by mountains that reach heights of 16,000 to 19,500 feet (5,000 to 6,000 m), each adding to the dramatic scenery of this incredible circuit. This is one of the best Argentinian trekking tours for those seeking unparalleled mountain views.

Adventure and tradition

This trek stands out not only for its impressive natural surroundings but also for the cultural experience it offers. As we traverse this wild landscape, you’ll cross rivers, explore little-travelled valleys, and you’ll have the opportunity to spot condors, guanacos, and foxes in their natural habitat. Additionally, local gauchos (arrieros), who expertly navigate the terrain with their mules, will accompany us along the way. Therefore, by the end of the day, enjoying an Argentine asado by the fire provides a taste of local culture and gauchos warm hospitality. This trek perfectly combines the thrill of adventure with authentic cultural experiences, cementing its place as one of the best Argentinian trekking tours.

With its challenging ascents, stunning wilderness, and cultural richness, the Mount Penitentes 360 traverse offers an adventure like no other. Whether you’re drawn by the impressive views of Mount Aconcagua or the allure of untouched nature, this trek promises an unforgettable journey through one of the most beautiful corners of the Andes.
