Mount Aconcagua expedition – Polish Glacier traverse
Aconcagua expedition guided program via the Vacas valley approach.
Standing at a height of 22,842 feet (6962 meters), Aconcagua is the highest mountain in the Americas and the second-highest of the Seven Summits. The traverse route offers a non-technical climbing to the summit that avoids the most heavily used camps, preserving some of the wilderness experience of this massive peak.
The Route
The Aconcagua Expedition via the Polish Traverse, which is often referred to as the False Polish Glacier Route, is a beautiful high altitude climb. The traverse route goes below the Polish glacier and involves similar climbing to the normal route. It does not involve, however, any hiking on the glacier.
During the Ascent
After the ascent we have the option to descend into the normal route and “Plaza de mulas ” Base camp via Horcones Valley and return to our starting point at the small town of Puente del Inca by a different route, thus completing a circumnavigation of the mountain, for instance, it is a real 360 traverse route around Mt. Aconcagua which is an amazing opportunity to explore the entire mountain.
The most rewarding expedition in the Andes
With the opportunity to see all aspects of the mountain and reach the highest point in the Western Hemisphere, this surely ranks among our most rewarding expeditions. In other words, this trip offers participants the chance to test their endurance at high altitude without the complexities of glacier travel, but still in a full-blown expedition context. And, for those desiring to go on to carry out Himalayan expeditions to the 8000-meter giants, this climb provides excellent training and experience at higher altitudes.
The climbing logistics and strategy
All of your equipment is carried to base camp by mules. We follow the philosophy of “climb high, sleep low” as we establish a series of higher camps while ascending Aconcagua. We have also included numerous inclement weather days in the schedule to allow more time to attempt the summit climb. These factors enable proper acclimatization and greatly increase our chances of success.
Porter support available Climbers will be able to hire a porter for all or some portions of the ascent for an additional charge.
