Aconcagua Base Camp Trek
*AVAILABLE FROM NOVEMBER 01ST 2019 TO APRIL 2020*
Mount Aconcagua is the summit of the entire Andean chain and the highest mountain in the whole of the Americas. Every year, mountaineers head here from all over the world to scale its heights, looking to conquer its slopes and stand on the peak of the Andes. This trip allows you a unique opportunity to be part of that experience, even if only for a day, and to take in beautiful views of the mountain.
First, we will drive to Aconcagua National Park, near the Chilean border, in private transport, enjoying the mountain views and small villages of the central Andes on the way. We will stop briefly at Puente del Inca, a remarkable 70-ft-long natural rock bridge that crosses the Cuevas River and from which drip ribbons of bright yellow rock created by local sulfur deposits.
When we arrive at the National Park we will be on the same path as the Mountaineers, as we hike in towards the spectacular sight of Aconcagua; there are a number of different routes to climb the mountain, and therefore different “Base Camps”, but the camp of Confluencia, at 3300 mts, is the first one to which all expeditions head. Hoist your pack and feel the sense of adventure as you gaze up at the horizon to see the soaring snow and ice-covered peaks looming over the back over desert mountain ridges, watching the ever-present mules kicking up dust as they take supplies to and from the base camps. At Confluencia you will be met with amazing views of the summit of Mount Aconcagua and the massive snow and ice wall of its south face; far from the roads and yet bustling with tents, gear, mountaineers checking their crampons…
A classic hike in the Central Andes for anyone looking for an amazing Andes experience. And who knows, maybe you’ll be inspired to come back next year and attempt the summit yourself!
